About "Research Center of IRIB"
The Research Center of IRIB is the greatest and most widespread research center
of IRIB in terms of organizational position, human force, tasks and facilities.
Its main mission is study, research and measurement on the fields related to IRIB
needs using scientific methods in order to use in policy-making, planning, supervision
and quality upgrade of radio and television programs within the frameworks of IRIB
organizational principles.
The activities of the Research Center of IRIB go back to the commencement of Iranian
National Radio and Television. The activities in 1961 in the framework of a research
center under the title "People's Culture Center". Then, the committee of "Opinion
Measurement" was formed simultaneous with beginning of Iranian National Television
in 1966 and started its survey activities. After the victory of Islamic Revolution
some units that were formed within the organization and were active in the field
of research to some extent were integrated in the "Center for Social Research and
Program Assessment". In 1989 according to the recommendation of the Supreme Leader
of the Islamic Revolution a center was formed under the title "Center for Research,
Studies and Program Measurement" by integrating "Center for Social Research and
Program Assessment", "Unit of Cultural Activities" and "Assessment Unit". In 2002
the structure of the center was revised and a new structure consisting three general
offices (Media and Communication, Social Researches and Program Assessment, and
Provinces and Overseas Researches) were introduced.
Structure
Research Center of IRIB according to its new structure (approved in 2006) has three
departments and several management offices. Each of research offices has a scientific
council.
1. Department of "Media Studies"
The department is conducting researches on basic and strategic researches in 6 research
groups: culture and media, art and media, law and media, language and media, economy
and media, media management and message engineering and supervision and coordinating
management.
2. Department of "Social Research and Program Measurement"
The main tasks of the department are to conduct applied research on audience study,
program measurement, social problem finding and problem solving regarding media
which is done in 9 specialized groups including: public opinion and political researches,
public opinion poll and cultural-religious researches, public opinion poll and psychological
researches, opinion poll and socio-economic researches, dramatic programs measurement,
non-dramatic program measurement, children programs measurement, audience studies,
methodology and measurement and coordinating management.
3. Department of "Provinces and Abroad Researches"
The department has three management offices: provinces, abroad and coordinating.
In addition to planning for provinces and abroad researches, the department conducts
some other tasks such as expert exploration, secondary research, problem finding,
and supervision over performance of other research centers and provision of information
for other branches of the Research Center in provinces and overseas. The department
conducts opinion polls about consent and reliance of audiences in all provinces,
towns and villages in Iran and abroad about IRIB radio and TV channels like Jaam-e-Jam,
Al-Alam and Sahar.
Other management offices include:
1. Culture and people management
The office has in charge of collecting written, audio and video information and
documents regarding folklore through secondary studies, field studies; research
and study on folklore issues using appropriate methods in order to introduce valuable
aspects of Iranian people culture.
2. Research planning and coordinating management
Some tasks of the office include: to compile and declare research policies for research
offices after approving by research council, to explore research proposals needed
by research units of IRIB, to prepare and regulate the content of "Payam-e-Pajuhesh"
monthly periodical, to plan and hold specialized courses needed by the researchers,
and to prepare and compile the annual plan of the Research Center.
3. Publication and information management
The office is in charge of preparing and providing research information needed by
the center and IRIB, managing the data bases and software systems of the center,
classifying and conducting translation, compile, edit and publish books and periodicals.
4. Statistics and interviewing management
The office is in charge of collecting, extracting, coding and processing research
data using new methods and techniques.
5. Public relations management
The office is in charge of communicating with different units inside IRIB organization
and informing through radio and television programs and the press.
Products of Research Center
1. Research reports: These are the reports related to opinion poll,
survey, effect study, content analysis etc about IRIB programs, significant political,
social, cultural and economic issues in Iran. They are sent to the officials and
other applicants in forms of abstracts and full text.
2. Books: The books published by the Research Center include compiled and translated
ones for being used by researchers and programmers.
3. Periodicals:
a) The quarterly "Pajuhesh-va-Sanjesh" is published according to special topics
and includes scientific and research articles of media and communication experts
and professors.
b) The quarterly "Farhang-e-MArdom" includes articles related to people's culture
units of the Research Center and other topics needed by media.
c) The monthly "Payam-e-Pajuhesh" is following providing information about research
organs of IRIB as its main task.
